Travel Information

Trains

The nearest train station to the Bach Centre is at CHOLSEY. However, it is a small station served by slower trains, and there is no taxi rank so getting from there to the Centre is not easy.

A more convenient route is to get off the train at DIDCOT PARKWAY. This is a mainline station about six miles from the Bach Centre. There are frequent services to and from LONDON PADDINGTON, SLOUGH, READING, DIDCOT and OXFORD, with connections to all parts of the UK including HEATHROW and GATWICK airports. For information on train times and help planning your route use the National Rail Enquiries web site.

Once you get to Didcot Parkway station you will find a row of taxis waiting outside to pick up passengers. Most of the local cab companies know the Bach Centre because they have ferried people to us before. The taxi ride can be expensive, however (£10 to £15 each way at the time of writing, i.e. 2005), so you might prefer to wait for a bus. There is an hourly bus service from outside Didcot Parkway station that goes through Brightwell-cum-Sotwell on its way to Wallingford.

Road travel

From LONDON, take the M4 west out of London and turn off at junction 8/9, signposted to Henley on Thames. Follow the road into Henley, turning right at the traffic lights in the town and following the road to Wallingford. Keep on this road all the way into and then through Wallingford, passing over a mini-roundabout and out of town. When you come to a larger roundabout go straight on towards Didcot but then take the next turn on the left (signed to Brightwell-cum-Sotwell). Follow the road around to the right. When you come to a fork in the road take the right-hand fork, again follow the road around to the right and you will see us right in front of you.

From the NORTH, take the M1 to Northampton, and then the A43 to Oxford. Just north of Oxford join the Ring Road in either direction until you reach the A4074 road signed to Henley/Maidenhead. After about ten miles you reach Shillingford. Here, turn right at the roundabout, heading into Wallingford on the A329. In Wallingford, turn right at the traffic lights, and go straight ahead over the mini-roundabout and out of town. When you come to a larger roundabout go straight on towards Didcot but then take the next turn on the left (signed to Brightwell-cum-Sotwell). Follow the road around to the right. When you come to a fork in the road take the right-hand fork, again follow the road around to the right and you will see us right in front of you.

Note that parking is very limited at the Bach Centre, so please park some distance away if possible, being careful not to block the access of local residents.
