Getting to Mount Vernon
Airports
There is a local airport at Oxford, but the nearest major airport is London Heathrow. London Gatwick is almost as close. Heathrow and Gatwick both have excellent rail and road links to all parts of the UK.
By train
The nearest train station to the Bach Centre is Cholsey - but it's a small station served by slower trains, and there are no taxis. Getting from Cholsey to the the Centre isn't easy unless you are being met - or have a bicycle.
Most visitors get off the train at Didcot Parkway, a mainline station about six miles from the Centre. Frequent trains run from Didcot to and from London Paddington, Slough, Reading and Oxford, with connections to all parts of the UK including the airports. The National Rail Enquiries web site will help you plan your route.
Once you get to Didcot Parkway you will find a row of taxis waiting outside to pick up passengers. Most of the local cab companies know the Bach Centre. The taxi ride can be expensive, however (£15 or more each way), so you might prefer to wait for a bus. There is an hourly bus service from Didcot Parkway station that goes through Brightwell-cum-Sotwell on its way to Wallingford.
