Communications weekend at Mount Vernon

Communication skills21st June 2011

There is a full weekend of communication skills training coming up at the Bach Centre in October.

Being a practitioner is all about communication, which means understanding what people say and how they feel, and making sure they in turn understand us. It's also an essential tool when building a practice, because giving talks on the remedies is one of the best ways of becoming known in an area, and making contact with potential clients.

Saturday 1st October 2011

The communications weekend kicks off with a masterclass in presentation skills, which will look to give attendees the skills and confidence to deliver really engaging and effective presentations.

During this day students will cover:

  • Planning and designing a presentation using a simple structure
  • Choosing and using visual aids effectively
  • Turning a script into easy-to-use notes
  • Handling questions with a three-step technique
  • Engaging with the audience
  • Preparing effective handouts
  • Handling nerves

Participants will also have the opportunity to design a ten-minute presentation on a subject of their choice, deliver the presentation and receive constructive feedback.

Sunday 2nd October 2011

On the Sunday the focus is on advanced communication skills. Practitioners have a vital need to understand the problems of clients and convey information to them clearly and concisely. Introducing a selection of NLP techniques, this course aims to identify what can go wrong, and find out how to understand ourselves and others at a deeper level.

During the day we will cover:

  • Skilful questioning techniques
  • Giving information effectively
  • Active listening skills
  • Building and maintaining rapport
  • Using the appropriate psychological language for the person with whom you’re communicating
  • Motivating clients in the way they need to be motivated

Both days will be taught by Judith Stewart BFRP, who has over 30 years experience of training in the public, private and voluntary sectors. Judy specializes in management and personal development, communication and interpersonal skills, writing and presentation skills. As well as being a Bach Foundation Registered Practitioner she is also an NLP Master Practitioner.
